Keeping Things in One Place: The Hamilton Civic Museums Goal to Create Central Storage

This session from the Ontario Museum Association Annual Conference 2022 features Franca Hicks, Curator of Collections for the Dundurn National Historic Site and Hamilton Military Museum and Shannon Coles, Conservator, City of Hamilton Civic Museums.

With over 60,000 artifacts located across various locations across the city the Collections and Conservation teams of the Hamilton Civic Museums have been working on centralizing the collections. Their focus is on assessing each of the storage locations, redesigning key spaces to better utilize space, create better environments, track and care for the artifacts with limited resources. This presentation focuses on the site assessments and planning process of this centralization project and progress up to date.
