The Ontario Museum Association is the leading professional organization advancing a strong, collaborative and inclusive museum sector that is vital to community life and the well-being of Ontarians. Collaborations further the Association’s ability to strengthen capacity among institutions and individuals active in Ontario’s museum sector, facilitate excellence and best practices, and improve the communication and collaboration of its membership.

The Association also advocates for the important role of Ontario’s museums to society, working with all levels of government, stakeholders, related sectors and industries, and other professional organizations.

Working collaboratively with partners like the Toronto History Museums, Digital Action Research & Training, Surface Impression, and George Brown College, has been central to the Association’s progress in supporting the inclusive digital transformation of Ontario’s museum sector.

Doug Friesen is a teacher and musician based in Toronto. Over the last 15 years, he has worked with teachers, students, and musicians about how listening and sound can engage creativity and agency. Doug is working on a PhD on sound and listening pedagogies. Doug has taught public secondary and post-secondary music courses at different schools, including the University of Toronto. As a musician, he’s played with many artists, including Selina Martin, Kael Reid, and Paul Linklater. Doug’s Mennonite grandparents fled religious persecution in the former U.S.S.R., and finally ended up settling in Manitoba on Treaty 1 territory: the land of Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Dene, and Métis Nations. He grew up helping farm land that was stolen, and has many privileges because of this.
